Accessibility in M365 Apps

Microsoft 365 provides superb apps and cloud services with accessibility built in. Created to meet the needs of people around the world with different abilities, the features within Microsoft 365 ensure everyone can create, communicate, and collaborate on any device. Here are some examples below.

Live Captions

With Live captions in Microsoft Teams, Teams picks up on what is being said in a meeting and presents real time captions on screen. This can make meetings more inclusive to users who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, users with different levels of language proficiency, and users in loud places by giving them another way to follow along. This also works for the mobile version.

To enable this, click the more options whilst in a Teams call and click turn on live captions.

Immersive Reader

Immersive Reader in Microsoft Teams allows users to hear posts and chat messages. Hear your document read aloud and to see the text highlighted at the same timeA narrator starts reading from the top of your page by default, unless there is selected word, in which case it will start reading from the selected word.

You can launch the immersive reader from a message in teams by hovering over a message with your cursor or tap with your finger on a touch screen device.

Select More options  , and then Immersive Reader

Immersive Reader will launch as a full-screen experience.

Dictation lets you use speech-to-text to author content in the Office Suite with a microphoneUse your voice to quickly create documents, emails, notes and more! Dictate in Word, Outlook, OneNote and even PowerPoint to have less reliance on typing all the time.

To dictate with Microsoft 365 apps, find the dictate icon in the navigation bar for either Word, Outlook, OneNote, or PowerPoint, click it and start talking away!
